fsx.cfg – what is it & where to find it?

FSX SP2 and FSX Acceleration in Windows 7, 8.1 and 10:
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX

FSX:SE:
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX-SE
or
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX
or in some rare occasions
Steam\Steamapps\Common\FSX\Config
(where Steam is your main Steam folder)

Steam Edition uses FSX-SE in dual installation (when both legacy FSX and Steam are installed). Steam will use FSX folder if it’s the only sim installed.

AppData folder may be hidden. Make sure your file explorer is showing hidden files and folders.

You may notice several files named fsx, fsx.cfg or similar. If your system does not show extensions – look in this folder for the one named fsx. If it shows extensions – look for fsx.cfg. If you are not sure about extension – switch to detailed view and look for a file of “CFG file” type.

There may be additional files like fsx.cfg.txt or fsx.cfg.bak, or fsx.bak, etc. These are backup files created when some add-ons were installed.

You can open and edit fsx.cfg in Notepad. Use “Open with…” command of the right mouse button menu.
