How hard is it to make a good video in a game? With the new video Dovetail Games seems to be trying hard to discourage possible customers from buying DTG Flight School.
Ok – so there is a new video showing DTG Flight School. What can we learn about the new sim? Not much unfortunately. The whole approach and landing lesson isn’t much different from the flight school that we had in the old FSX. There is a voice telling the pilot what to do, mission pointers and compass – we know both from FSX lessons and missions.
There are also two text fields where hints and directions are shown. I find this confusing – a single area would not be as confusing as two text fields displayed simultaneously and changing very fast. As fast, actually, that even when I watch the video I can hardly keep my attention on the approach and in the same time read the tips that are displayed for 2 or 3 seconds.
Scenery and aircraft quality?
When I saw the first videos from Flight School I expressed hope that it will feature a quality scenery in both airports where lessons are supposed to be conducted. This video shows a scenery that is clearly better than a default FSX scenery, but it does not exceed the quality of an average payware scenery. It is not even close to the level of Aerosoft or ORBX sceneries for FSX.
The same could be written about the plane. Watching this video I can not tell if it can be compared to a payware plane in FSX. This video is so blurry that I am not able to say if this is just a crappy recording or a crappy plane.
I just don’t get it. If you are making a video that will be all around the sim related forums and websites – why not make something good? Why not use full HD resolution instead of upscaled video marked with compression artifacts? And why can’t we see the simulation running at maxed out settings? Or maybe we saw just that?
